2017 Interns

Michelle Baum is a rising senior at University of Michigan where she will be graduating in April, 2018, with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and Spanish and a minor in business. After graduation, Michelle plans to attend graduate school to pursue a career in clinical psychology. Throughout the past two summers she has worked as a camp counselor for children with special needs, and through this experience, she discovered her passion for working with children. Building off this experience, she hopes to pursue a career in child and adolescent counseling to help youth overcome obstacles they may face and help set them up for successful and fulfilling lives in their future. On campus, she works as a peer advisor in the University of Michigan’s psychology department where she advises fellow students with decisions regarding courses, graduate school, research opportunities, and other aspects related to the undergraduate experience. She is also involved in a student organization that works to promote awareness of mental health and de-stigmatize mental health challenges on campus, and the organization also provides a space for students to meet and discuss their daily trials and successes. She has always been passionate about helping others and is excited to continue that work this summer at Advanced Therapeutic Solutions. She is excited to learn from the professionals and other interns at ATS and gain valuable experience in the clinical psychology field.

Rachel Lowe is a rising junior at Washington University in St. Louis where she will be graduating in May, 2019, with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and Spanish and a minor in anthropology. After obtaining her bachelor’s degree, she hopes to pursue a doctorate in clinical psychology. She is interested in psychopathology, and hopes to concentrate her graduate studies on anxiety disorders or schizophrenia. Rachel works as a research assistant in the Memory and Complex Learning Laboratory on the Washington University campus, where she guides participants through experiments and codes data for a study on prospective memory and learning strategies. She is drawn to psychology research and hopes to learn more about research methods through this internship. Rachel also enjoys working with children and tutors bilingual elementary schoolers in reading and math each week. She could not be more excited for the opportunity to intern at Advanced Therapeutic Solutions this summer and learn from the staff and other interns. Rachel is especially eager to work with kids with Selective Mutism and observe their progression through treatment. By working with the various professionals at ATS, Rachel hopes to get a better idea of what career she would like to pursue after graduate school.

Annie Zaher is a rising sophomore at Cornell University where she will be graduating with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a minor in education in May, 2020. She has volunteered at both Downers Grove and Westmont Public Libraries where she has helped build a foundation for academic success and has inspired feelings of self-confidence in children through the youth reading programs. Annie also volunteered at Hinsdale Humane Society where she assisted in the adoption process and interacted with people of diverse programs to find the proper home for each animal. In this sensitive situation, she believes her patience and empathy towards others made this volunteer work enjoyable and a valuable learning experience in handling emotionally-charged situations. She is interested in school psychology and worked at Fall Creek Elementary School in Ithaca, New York during the first year of her undergraduate career. At the end of her freshman year, Annie joined the Adolescent Transition Lab and upon returning to school this fall, she plans to research the different aspects of puberty that lay the groundwork for future adjustment or maladjustment. After graduation, she plans to pursue a doctorate in clinical psychology. Annie is excited to take advantage of the rich connection ATS has with schools in the community and hopes to blend her interest in school psychology with her clinical interests. She is highly motivated to support the Adventure Camp team and make a difference in the lives of the campers and their families.

Hannah Hunter is a rising junior at Grand Valley State University where she will be graduating in December, 2018, with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a minor in applied statistics. After graduating, she plans on pursuing a doctorate degree in clinical psychology. Hannah has always been interested in engaging with children in any setting, and she has confirmed this by volunteering in second grade classrooms at both her church and a public school near her university. Outside of class, Hannah spends her time at school in a research lab that focuses on the emotional socialization of toddlers across various cultures. She has enjoyed getting to collaborate with colleagues from around the world, and loves learning about diverse groups of children. In the future, Hannah wishes to use her experience in research to facilitate her growth as a psychologist, as well as use the clinical experience that Advanced Therapeutic Solutions will give her. Hannah also works at her university's writing center, which allows her to work closely with other students across various disciplines. The writing center combines her drive to help others with her passion for learning from everyone that she encounters, which has given Hannah the drive to continue on the path of clinical psychology. Hannah loves collaborating with peers, and she is both honored and excited to work alongside experts in psychology at Advanced Therapeutic Solutions this summer.

Victoria (Tori) Trimm is a rising junior at Duke University where she will be graduating in May, 2019, with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a minor in global health. She plans to pursue a doctorate in clinical psychology and find a career in counseling or psychotherapy. This past year, she worked as a research assistant in the Behavioral Research Center, running participants in a study focused on developing a reliable predictor for the selfishness trait. Additionally, Tori spent time volunteering at a regional substance abuse rehabilitation center where she gathered data and oral reports from residents to better understand recidivism among addicts and to determine potential opportunities for program development. She is also very involved with a student run musical theater group dedicated to advocacy for mental health awareness. Tori has loved working with children in many of her endeavors, especially in the arts. She most recently participated in a cabaret troupe that collaborated with children’s organizations such as the Ronald McDonald house and Children’s Hospital to conduct interactive performance events. Tori is thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Advanced Therapeutic Solutions this summer. She cannot wait to help the families and children at Adventure Camp and learn from an incredible staff of mental health professionals.
