Problems in these areas are experienced by virtually all parents. However, there is so much more you can do than wait for them to “grow out of it.” At ATSA, we understand the crucial role parents serve in supporting their child’s development, and the vast benefits of addressing problems early. Unfortunately, conventional parenting practices are often inadequate and can even exacerbate issues among children with emotional challenges. HOT DOCS uses a problem-solving approach to teach caregivers how to reduce triggers, teach children new skills, and learn new responses to address children’s challenging emotions and behaviors. During the class, we address group member’s real-life concerns and provide strategies to problem-solve the tasks of today, and to support children across their development. DOCS programs use evidence-based parent training methods to help caregivers improve children’s self-control, communication, and independence.
